Staircase race on behalf of burned children foundation

A high-rise planned for demolition was once again the scene of a staircase race sponsored by the Bergheim Fire Department for donations on behalf of Paulinchen e.V., a foundation for burned children. The Bergheim firefighters already did this in 2013. On October 14, 2017, 71 teams of two to three firefighters from all over Germany participated in the Bergheim FD's second staircase race, running 45 metres high, up 16 flights of stairs with a total of 267 steps for the worthy cause.

The proceeds came together from the €10 entry fee per person, the raffle for an American fire helmet with the Bergheim staircase race logo, and monies from the food and beverage stands. The event patron was Jan Heinisch, North Rhine-Westphalia Secretary of State for Family, Commune, Housing and Equality as well as Chairman of the Association of Fire Departments in North Rhine-Westphalia. He also ran in the race.

The association will use the money for such activities as maintaining the free initial contact hotline that helps victims of burn injuries, for various campaigns to raise awareness of the dangers of burns and scalding, and also for the "Paulinchen" seminars, where families with injured children can get to know each other.

Without donations, it would be impossible for the charity to hold its projects for families with young burn victims or carry out prevention work aimed at protecting as many children as possible from serious and avoidable accidents.

At the end of the campaign, €3,333 was donated to Paulinchen e.V.
